Ditch the Drama and Entitlement with Cy Wakeman

Original Air Date: August 30, 2018

In this week’s episode, I interview workplace drama researcher, international leadership speaker, and consultant Cy Wakeman. Cy’s philosophy is grounded in reality,  and she’s helped organizations and individuals all over the world learn to ditch the drama and turn excuses into results.

We talked about how you can bypass your own ego and really see your privilege. We also discussed going beyond the Kumbaya part of diversity and inclusion, and really getting to the heart of the things that matter. I love how Cy brings together deep research and authentic experience to create steps, resources, and tools you can use to remove the drama from your life and be an authentic leader.

Perhaps this is why Cy Wakeman was named one of the Top 30 Global Leadership Gurus in the world, and she is also a New York Times best selling author.

You can follow Cy on her Website, Instagram, Facebook or Listen to her Podcast.

My Special Birthday Episode: Reflections, Vulnerability & Celebration

It is my birthday week!

Each year, I dedicate a podcast episode to speak reflections out loud.

To give sound to the inside,

So that vibrations can become lessons learned.

Wisdom is earned,

Creativity burns bright through consistency.

To be here for another year is a blessing.

Take the risk and go for it,

Or spend your 365th-day second-guessing.

Accountability over blame.

I’m grateful for the losses

and the gains.

For the downwind ease

And the uphill pain.

There is a release of worry,

When you can learn to taste the rain.

Each misstep a new campfire story.

The hurricane

And the boring.

Even amidst the turbulence

Finding pockets of stillness.

I give thanks

For the new smiles shining with brilliance.

I see now I’m supposed to feel all of this.

No hiding.

Sadness.

Mourning.

And then in the morning.

There you are everywhere.

In the air,

Alive in our memories.

Truly,

It is a blessing.

To be here for another year.

InshAllah.

Will you join me?

In celebrating my birthday?

I’d like to request a gift.

Will you share with me:

A memory.

A story.

Of how we met,

Of a time our lines crossed.

A moment we connected.

It would mean the world to me.

Thank you for being a part of my journey.

Nightmares Can Lead to Dreams

Slam's life quote is "Sometimes a Nightmare Can Lead to a Dream".
In this week’s interview Slam shares how the quote, as well as writing and poetry, have motivated and helped her life. It has also led Slam to her dream; working with kids in the foster care system and helping people all over.

Slam Anderson

Florida native Slam Anderson was born the fourth of five children raised by a single mother. She spent her important adolescent years in Foster Care, and knew from an early age she’d have to forge her own path. And regardless of these early challenges, she still gained admission to the University of South Florida, where she graduated with a Bachelors in Creative Writing and is now working on her Master in Social Work.

Slam is a strong advocate of ‘Youth’ social welfare, and works in the community to promote literacy, self-empowerment, awareness, domestic violence, social justice and most importantly LOVE for ourselves and for others.

Check out this powerful and moving episode.
