Personal Stories From My Entrepreneurial Journey

Entrepreneurship is a spiritual journey.

It brings to the surface every single fear, insecurity, doubt, and all of that nasty self-talk.

Which is truly a gift, though it’s hard to see at the moment.

To succeed, it takes hard work, going through each and every emotion.

Each new level of success invites us to go deeper within. To more fully own worthiness. To build that foundation of self, beyond external validation and outcomes.

And at the same time, entrepreneurship invites us time and time again to really ask this question:

→ What do I truly want?

→ And WHY?

There have been many times where I’ve finally climbed a tall mountain, only to look around and wonder, “is this really where I want to be?”

Reflections that have led me to a life that I am truly grateful for.

This week I’d like to get personal and share with you some of my deepest stories and their significance in my journey.

I see it as a really special way to close out the year of this podcast. And I’m grateful that you’re here to share it.

Let’s go on this journey together.

Staying On The Path An Interview With Warrior Poets Jamie Dawson and Sam(ira) Obeid

For all of us striving to stay on the path - this one is for you.

This week’s episode is truly special.

I felt so honored and grateful just for getting the chance to be in the same room as these two warrior poets.

My guests this week, Jamie Dawson and Sam(ira) Obeid, are two of the most creative and brilliant people I have had the privilege of knowing.

We wove through many important and timely conversations all while striving to remain open, honest, and vulnerable.

Accountability and introspection were two themes that tied together the thoughts expressed.

Jamie and Sam both shared their deep insights on heavy conversations such as:

-How do we process the grief, the trauma, and the roller coaster that these past 12+ months have been?

-What does true allyship look like?

-What role do creativity, art, and poetry play in processing?

-What lies at the intersection of art and activism?

Jamie and Sam both provided true gifts on this one.

Please do yourself the favor of listening in.

For all of us striving to stay on the path - this one is for you.

You rock.

Jamie Dawson is a professional writer, performer, and black arts scholar whose talents range from spoken word, theatre, and commissioned works on the topics such as black life, multiculturalism, women’s rights, healing, and connection to each other through Earth.

Gifts for My Child Episode 7

Featuring: Shelby Birch, Moses Weir, Walter Wally B. Jennings, and Jessica Estevez

Wow! Can you believe it?! This is the final episode of the ‘Gifts for My Child’ series. For those of you just tuning in – I highly recommend you start with episode 1 of this series.

I am so grateful to all of my friends who shared their time, their love, and their wisdom with Jayanma by participating in this project.

There are so many intentions and aspirations that went into this project. One of the main ones being that I want Jayanma to know that there is a community of people ready to listen and be there for her.

As a new dad, these interviews have been such a resource!

I am so excited for Jayanma to listen to this as she gets older. I envision her checking them out 32 years later, and reflecting on her dad creating them while he was 32 and preparing for her arrival.

Wow. What a fun thought.

Speaking of – I’d love to hear your thoughts on this project. And, as always, if you have any advice or reflections on any questions I asked my guests, please send them in!

Thank you so much for listening to this series!

Gifts for My Child Episode 3

Featuring: Jasmine Star, Mitch del Monico, Intisar Seraaj, Vivi Devereaux

I am grateful that I get to share with you the third installment of my Gifts for My Child series. As I’ve mentioned, if you haven’t listened to episode 1 already, I highly recommend you start there.

It was really a beautiful process meeting with those I care about and asking them to offer advice to my yet to be born child. I learned new things about each person I interviewed, and really had important conversations with them.

As I was editing these episodes, what really stood out to me was the power of offering advice to someone we have yet to meet.

Whether you’re looking for some inspiration, a spark of hope, or a thought-provoking listen, then be sure to join us on this week’s episode.

Special Birthday Episode!

What?! It’s my Birthday! Each year, as a way to intentionally reflect, I share a special birthday edition of T.H.E. Celebration. This year has seen so many blessings come my way, and I am so grateful for them. Even those challenging days, when I lay awake at night worrying what my next move should be, brought opportunities for growth. Ultimately, 31 has been a great ride.

To jump into a 32nd year that is grounded in gratitude, I’ll be going through my birthday ritual with you, which is to share one self-love affirmation for each year that I’ve been alive. That means that today, there are 32 of them!

As I reflected upon this past year I realized that books and reading have been such a source of inspiration and grounding for me. One of the best ways to honor that aspect of my life is to connect it to my birthday celebration.

Which is why I’ll also be sharing 7 quotes from 7 different books that have shaped, guided, and impacted me this past year.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you for all of the love, support, and affirmation you share with me. I am so grateful to be in community with you.

You’re the best. I hope you enjoy today’s birthday edition episode.
